Maple Leafs have begun forming some of their on ice product early in the off season with some; (I’ll be it small) but hopefully integral parts signed defencemen Petter Granberg and Tim Erixon to one-year contracts. But the piece am excited about for future anyway is today the club announced it has come to terms with forward Zach Hyman on a two-year entry level contract. Granberg, 22, was held pointless in seven regular season games with the Maple Leafs this past season. The Swedish defenseman had 15 points (one goal, 14 assists) in 53 regular season games with the Marlies last year. Granberg, a fourth round selection (116th overall) by the Leafs in the 2010, has only appeared in 8 career games for them. Erixon, 24, registered one goal in the 15 games he appeared in last season after being claimed off waivers from Chicago. He skated in an additional 19 games with Columbus and 8 with the Blackhawks before joining the leafs. He is and original first round draft pick of the Flames back in ’09.
Hyman, 23, a University of Michigan star was acquired with the first trade of this young off season with Florida long with a conditional 7rth rounder for Greg Mckegg. He was originally drafted in the 5th round 123rd overall by the Panthers. He led the big ten this year and was a first team all American and a finalist for the hobey baker award
