Hall of Fame defenseman Scott Niedermayer will have a new role with the Anaheim Ducks this upcoming season. He will serve as a special development coach and work directly with the Ducks and their AHL Affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.

Since retirement Niedermayer has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Ducks. He is active in practices working with the club's defensemen and during the games he observes from the press box.

The Ducks appointed Scotty the new role because of the new coaching staff in Anaheim and San Diego. Assistant Coach Paul MacLean has been added to the Ducks coaching staff for this season and Dallas Eakins will be the new Head Coach in San Diego. Niedermayer is a great role model and can lead the group of defense at both levels. He has proven that over the past three seasons in Anaheim. He helped formed the Ducks defenceman into a dangerous blue-line for years to come.

Niedermayer was apart of the Ducks 2007 Stanley Cup team. During those playoffs, he was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for outstanding play. He joined Anaheim in 2005 after 12 seasons with the New Jersey Devils.
