On September 25, Francis Bouillon, a small dependable defenceman who played 14 NHL seasons, announced his retirement from professional hockey.
Bouillon went unsigned after the 2013-14 campaign and he decided to play one last season for Ambri-Piotti in the Swiss league. The 39-year-old unrestricted free agent made the announcement Friday after failing to capture the attention of an NHL club.
The five-foot-eight, 200-pound Bouillon played most of his career with the Montreal Canadiens. He played 11 seasons and had two stints with the Nashville Predators. His NHL career stats were 32 goals and 149 points in 776 NHL games.
He made his NHL debut in 1999-00 with the Canadians. He stayed in Montreal until the 2009 when the team decided not to resign him. He left Montreal for a short stint in the 2002-03 season for the Predators. He played four games before being traded back to Montreal. After the 2008-09 campaign but signed a deal after a tryout with Nashville, he spent the next three seasons with the Predators.
Bouillon returned to the Canadiens for two seasons in 2012. Now that he has retired, he will remain in the Canadiens organization as a member of the board of directors of the team's alumni association.
