The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they’ve signed an extension with defencemen Brent Seabrook. Terms for the contract is eight-year deal worth $55 million. Seabrook will be apart of the Blackhawks organization until the 2024 Free Agency.

"I'm excited to be a Blackhawk. That's where I wanted to be the whole time. I didn't want to push it or wait or anything like that. I'm proud to be a Blackhawk. I'd like to spend my whole career here. It's up to me now to fulfill my end of the bargain and go from there."

Seabrook has been a difference maker for the Blackhawks and helped them win three cups in the past six seasons. The 30-year-old will making $5.8 million this season before the extension begins next season. The contract will pay Seabrook an avg. $6.875M.

Although the average is $6.875M, he won’t earn that each season. Seabrook will make $9M a year in the first 3 seasons; then $7.5M in 2019-20, $5 in 2020-21, $6M in 2021-22, $5M in 2022-23 and $4.5M in 2023-24.

He is also given a No-move clause that begins immediately. The No-movement clause stays in affect until 2022 then become a modified no trade. He must provide Chicago with a list of 5 teams he would consider being traded too. That list changes to 10 teams in 2023-2024.
