We all know that Pre-Season NHL hockey doesn't mean much but when you finished dead last in the NHL in both scoring and points anything positive in the pre-season is something to smile about. The Buffalo Sabres are doing big things and they are starting to turn a lot of heads. They now currently sit 4-1-0 on the pre-season and have improved dramatically in scoring.
Tuesday night in Buffalo the Sabres dressed what could be their opening day roster and it looked very good. When you have names like Evander Kane, Ryan O'Rielly, Jack Eichel, Tyler Ennis, Zemgus Girgensons, Matt Moulson, Sam Reinhart and Brian Gionta you expect big plays and big goals, and well you certainly got that Tuesday Night.
The Sabres opened with a line of Colaiacovo and Ristolainen on the back end and O'Rielly at Center with Ennis and Kane on the wing. This line did not end up on the score sheet but you could see chemistry immediately between the 5 and 3 upfront. Tyler Ennis a natural Centerman spent parts of last season on the wing and he didn't look out of place on Tuesday, he was able to jump into the rush and set up plays for both Kane and O'Rielly. Look to see the line continue playing together throughout the rest of the pre-season.
Lines 2 and 3 for the Sabres looked interested, with Eichel at centre and Moulson, Gionta on the wing for a second line. The third line had Rienhart at centre with Rodrigues and Foligno on the wing. These lines both ended up on the score sheet. Each line contributed for 2 goals. Rodriguez with 2, Eichel 1 and Moulson 1.
The Sabres came out on top winning 4-0. Lehner looked fantastic on the backend stopping all 26 shots he faced. The Sabres have 2 more pre-season games left before they decide on a final roster, they play Thursday Night in Minnesota and then are back home Friday night against Columbus, Barring any injuries this game against Toronto appears to the the 2015-2016 opening day roster for the Buffalo Sabres.
